Master of Science in Epidemiology

This is a two year program that aims to train public health professionals in the collection, treatment and analysis of epidemiological purveyance data and in the ability to extensively circulate information at all levels of the health system. The program also teaches how to conduct necessary studies and researches pertaining to the needs of the country and in collaboration with partners.

  1. Objectives :

At the end of this training, the trained epidemiologist will be able to assume the following functions:

  • Ensure collection, treatment and analysis of epidemiological purveyance data.
  • Manage an epidemiology.
  • Analyse collected data in the field of HIV and AIDS.
  • Produce an epidemiological bulletin.
  • To extensively circulate information at all the health system
  • Conduct necessary studies and researches pertaining to the needs of the country and in collaboration with (the) partners.
  • Create a data collection tool in collaboration with integrated programs.
  1. Entry profile
 
  1. Medical doctors and health professionals in charge of epidemiological surveillance at the levels of districts, projects and programs, as well as the private sector.
  2. Supervisors of projects and programs or from the private sector holding a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent.
  3. Any other candidate holding a Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent) who passes an entrance test.

All candidates must have at least two years of experience in health or health related fields. 

  1. General organization

The training for Master’s degree in Epidemiology is spread over two academic years, alternatively between the SPH and the work place. The training is organized into modules. It comprises 6 modules of two to four weeks each. Upon completion of the 6 modules, there is a two month industrial training and two weeks of integrated exercises. Every module leads to a certificate of training. At the end of the day, the candidate who will have passed all the modules will have his certificates validated into a Master’s degree in Epidemiology.

The end of the training is sanctioned by the presentation of a thesis. According to the Post-graduate Academic Regulations; the thesis weighs 10 credits.

The thesis is assessed by the academic supervisory team according to a 0 to 20 scale. The follow-up of the field course work is carried out by the ESP (telephone calls, electronic mails, meetings and field visits).

Regularity, time-mindedness and maintaining contact are assessed every two months by the industrial attachment supervisor and marked according to a 0 to 20 scale.
